What happens when a yoga studio becomes a community?

Modo Yoga Brant is a place where people gather to be inspired, to feel welcome and supported, and to leave feeling better than when they arrived. It’s also a place that has become so much more than its owner ever expected.

Martha did not intend to own her own studio when she was presented with a plan to take over the Modo Yoga Studio in Downtown Brantford. A teacher of yoga since 2012, Martha was curious about what owning a Modo franchise would look like on paper. She was investigating the process.

When the studio was suddenly closed, Martha knew that it would be a drastic loss for the community. From there, things happened very quickly, and before she could change her mind, she became the proud franchise owner of Modo Yoga Brant. Martha, a frequent visitor of Downtown Brantford had watched the transformation of the area take shape. She noticed a renewed sense of pride in the downtown core, business owners taking care to keep it clean and safe, and an uptick in efforts by the city to build community through the promotion of events in Harmony square, the Sanderson Centre, local restaurants, and stores.

“Having Laurier Brantford close by, the gorgeous Sanderson Center, coffee shops, restaurants, and all kinds of other businesses has created quite a community here, and that’s exactly why I chose this location to open up our studio.”

As for the classes and studio space itself, Modo Yoga Brant has something for everyone. Becoming a member grants students unlimited access to yoga, barre, and mobility classes, and many more perks. The hot room is an escape from the day where you can unwind and give your body the movement it craves.

Come for the class, and stay for the community! It’s not uncommon to see yogis curled up on the couch in between classes sharing tea, snacks, and conversation.

It truly is a welcoming space for wellness and connection.
