Growing up, Mohan Kandasamy loved to watch the care and effort his mother put into preparing food for their family. It was not long before Mohan was helping her cook and learning about different recipes. Recognizing a strong passion for cooking, inspired by his mother, he knew he was destined to be a chef. πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ³

Mohan took on the career full-time for over 15 years, opening his own authentic #IndianRestaurant in busy downtown Toronto. Though he thoroughly enjoyed cooking and serving his customers, he felt something was missing.

β€œIt was such a dense area but it did not have a sense of community,” said Mohan.

🍲 Deeming this a necessity, the search for a new location for Zaaika Indian Cuisine stretched across Toronto, Hamilton and Waterloo. Finally, he found a perfect location on 46 Dalhousie Street in #DowntownBrantford. He opened the new location of Zaaika Indian Cuisine in 2020, offering an extensive menu of authentic Indian food made with quality ingredients at affordable prices.

β€œI chose #Brantford because I felt like I could build a community here. We love interacting with our customers and hearing about their experiences with our food. We have a diverse set of customers from students to local citizens who just tried their first taste of authentic Indian food.”

Though the restaurant opened during the Covid-19 pandemic, where many restaurants have faced various restrictions, Mohan is as eager as ever to keep serving the local community.

β€œWe take great pride in ensuring that our customers leave with a smile on their face. We do our best to provide them with our best hospitality.”

With a warm welcome to Brantford downtown, Mohan already feels the sense of community he was seeking.

β€œThe community has been so helpful and kind. It is our utmost priority to give back in some way once the pandemic is over.”
